Tomáš Prouza

Tomas Prouza graduated from the University of Economics of Prague, Czech Republic in 1998, majoring in economics and diplomacy, minoring in economic journalism. He went on to further his economic studies and received his MBA from The Open University in the United Kingdom in 2005, while focusing on management and human resources issues. Originally an economic journalist since 1996, Mr. Prouza founded the first Czech personal finance website www.penize.cz in 2000, focusing on retail financial services and personal finance, including the issues of retail finance regulation and financial consumer protection.

Between 2004 and 2007 he was deputy minister of finance of the Czech Republic, responsible for financial services, European Union and international relations as well as preparations for the euro adoption, serving as the first "Mr. Euro" in the Czech Republic. He was also responsible for restructuring the financial sector supervision and developing the integrated supervisory institution in the Czech Republic. Between 2007 and 2011, he was a member of the board of Partners, the largest Czech personal finance advisory company, and was responsible for regulatory and compliance affairs. Between 2009 and 2011 he was also the chairman of the board of the Czech Association of Financial Advisers and assisted the government in developing the new regulatory system for retail financial product distribution.

Between 2007 and 2014, he was the Senior Financial Sector Specialist of the World Bank in the areas of financial consumer protection, financial education and financial inclusion. He worked on projects in Europe, Central Asia and Africa and cooperated with the European Union, OECD and CGAP on the development of the retail financial consumer protection systems and the systems of market conduct supervision. He is also a co-author of the Market Conduct Supervisory Training Program of Toronto Centre. 

In 2014, he has returned to Prague and until March 2017 served as the State Secretary for the European Union of the Government of the Czech Republic developing, coordinating and implementing European policies of the Czech Republic. Currently, Mr. Prouza is the Managing Director of EU Politics Advisory, a consultancy focusing on EU and digital issues as well as providing trainings for corporations and young diplomats on EU-related issues.
