Another world is possible: How innovation and problem-solving are making a difference in many of the world's great problems
Douglas Arellanes (born 1967 near Los Angeles, California, USA) bridges the worlds of media, technology and social change. He is the founder of Mural, a Czech company making tools to make visual storytelling easier. In 2010, he co-founded Sourcefabric, a Czech nonprofit foundation devoted to providing technology support to media organizations, where he served as director of innovation. He worked for eight years as a technologist and consultant for the Media Development Loan Fund.
In the 1990s, Arellanes was an executive with TDC Internet (formerly TeleDanmark), and successfully founded two technology startups, including the first web design agency in the Czech Republic, started in 1993.
Arellanes holds a bachelor's degree in the interdisciplinary field of Book Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also works as a translator from Czech to English, having translated such books as Tomas Sedlacek's “Economics of Good and Evil” (Oxford University Press, 2011). A permanent resident of the Czech Republic, Arellanes has lived in Prague since 1992. He is also a DJ on Prague’s Radio 1.
