Jan Kasl

Architect and former Mayor of Prague

Ing. arch. Jan Kasl, born in Prague, 31 December 1951, registered architect, member of the Czech Chamber of Architects, 1996 Associate AIA, 2012 Fellow of RICS. Graduated at Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Architecture in 1976; practicing from 1977 till 1989 in co-operative designing studio (housing, town planning, rural areas development, etc.). From 1992 to 1999 founder of designing studio A projekt, quit designing for public career in 1998; since 2007 back in professional career in Best Development Prague architectural studio.

After the Velvet Revolution engaged in politics – elected Prague 1 Deputy Mayor 1990, Counsellor for planning and strategy in 1993-1994; Mayor of the City of Prague, 1998 to 2002. Member of several boards and councils in academic world (Charles University, CVUT, AMU) and professional bodies (former President of EUROPAN CZ, member of the board of Czech Architecture Foundation, Open House Prague etc.). Co-author of the New Strategic Plan for Prague 2030, at the Institute of planning and development of the City of Prague 2013-2016.
